Classifying Assault/Battery Offenses Training
The Illinois-Uniform Crime Reporting (I-UCR) Program will be offering NIBRS training for agencies submitting data to the State NIBRS repository. The training will focus on accurately classifying offenses, specifically Assault/Battery Offenses, in NIBRS to ensure the consistency and comparability of data across the country. We will discuss the NIBRS code table and how Illinois statutes are translated into common UCR language that transcends the varying local and state laws. We will review the standardized offense definitions in NIBRS, which is essential to the maintenance of uniform and consistent data. There will be various training scenarios provided as well as a review of real incidents submitted by Illinois agencies in 2024 that were determined to have inaccurate offense classifications. Portions of a redacted police narrative will be shared and reviewed to assist agencies with the rules of uniform classification of offenses.
This free training will be offered via WebEx and will be approximately 60-90 minutes.
Dates and Times:
Tuesday, January 27 at 9:00am CST
Wednesday, January 28 at 2:00pm CST
