NIBRS 2026 Deadlines
Dear partners,
The FBI’s Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program is requesting State Program Managers (SPMs), and Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Systems Officers (CSOs) notify data contributors about upcoming deadlines for FY2026.
All contributors are encouraged to submit data in advance of established deadlines. The FBI’s UCR Program will be sending out correspondence to data submitters:
- Requesting verification of data showing significant increases or decreases over the previous submissions and/or verification of any high/low monthly offense counts.
- Identifying any data that have not been received.
Please remember to review your UCR dashboard and if you need assistance, please contact us at UCR@fbi.gov.
Agencies should continue to forward data if deadlines are not met for inclusion in future updates to the Crime Data Explorer. UCR SPMs and CJIS CSOs are asked to inform local agencies of the following important dates and deadlines as necessary:
- All data submitted to the FBI’s UCR Program by 10:59 p.m. central standard time (CST) on the 14th of every month will be published midmonth to the FBI’s Crime Data Explorer.
- Agencies have until 10:59 p.m. CST on January 30, 2026, to submit data for the “Law Enforcement Employee Data” release as of October 31, 2025.
- Agencies have until 10:59 p.m. CST on April 1, 2026, to report data to be included in the annual “Reported Crimes in the Nation” report.
Annual crime data releases
- “Law Enforcement Officers Killed and Assaulted (LEOKA), 2025” Special Report
- “Law Enforcement Employee Data, 2025”
- “Reported Crimes in the Nation (RCN)” which includes the following:
- “UCR Summary of Reported Crimes in the Nation, 2025”
- “Crime in the United States, 2025”
- “National Incident-Based Reporting System, 2025”

The FBI’s UCR Program
January NIBRS Training Announcement
Greetings,
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Training Instructors are pleased to announce another session of our new condensed virtual training of the National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS) open to all states on January 6 - 7, 2026, from 1 p.m. - 5 p.m. Eastern Time.
This will be a free virtual NIBRS course on the Microsoft Teams platform and will be available to law enforcement personnel representing state, county, city, university and college, and tribal agencies. Training will include NIBRS Fundamentals, detailed instructions on classifying Group A offenses (Crimes Against Persons, Crimes Against Property, Crimes Against Society), Group B offenses, and practice scenarios. Data elements will not be included in this 2-day training.
We ask that UCR State Programs handle sending this information to any/all agencies you would like to participate. When disseminating to agencies, please be sure to include the registration link below. Registration will open at 2:00PM Eastern Time on December 15 and will close when the class reaches 290 participants. It has been our experience that class reaches maximum capacity very quickly, often within hours. We advise to register as soon as possible.
Instruction will be a total of 8 hours over a two-day span with a 30-minute lunch each day. Participants must attend both days of training to receive a completion certificate. The tentative agenda for the course is as follows:
- Tuesday, January 6: NIBRS Fundamentals, Crimes Against Persons, Crimes Against Property
- Wednesday, January 7: Crimes Against Property (cont’d), Crimes Against Society, and Group B Offenses
REGISTRATION
Registration will open at 2:00PM Eastern Time on December 15, 2025, and will close at 11:45 p.m. on December 30 or when class reaches maximum capacity.
Space is limited to 290 individual logins on a first-come, first-served basis.
An informational flyer with registration information is attached.
We will contact participants soon after registration closes to confirm registration.
We highly recommend that agencies share a single login/computer, when possible, to allow for more registrants. If sharing a single login, only one person from a group will need to register and serve as the primary registrant. There is no FBI limit to the number of participants who may view the training from a shared login. For example, multiple participants may view the training in a conference room on a shared screen and would only need to register one person. All participants who attend both days of NIBRS training will receive a certificate of completion.

2025 Law Enforcement Employee Data
Each year the national Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program collects information on the number of full-time law enforcement personnel employed within participating agencies. At this time, the FBI is requesting counts on the number of officer and civilian employees on each department's payroll as of October 31, 2025. Agencies can begin reporting the data on November 1, 2025 through the illinois.nibrs.com portal.
Receipt of individual counts will ensure that each agency is accurately represented, and that all data can be processed and included in the annual publications, Crime in the United States and Law Enforcement Officers Killed and Assaulted (LEOKA). Please note, in the LEOKA publication, state and national officer assault data represent only those agencies for which both an annual police employee count and 12 months officer assault data were reported.
Police employee data are now used in the National Use of Force data collection and are a contributing factor in publication determination.
Please provide the 2025 police employee counts to the national Program by December 31st, 2025. As stated, the reporting window will be made available on November 1st. Data must be entered into the INR production site (illinois.nibrs.com). Thank you for your assistance and your continued participation in the national UCR Program.
