The Offense Density Report shows the geographic distribution of Offense by county. This report shows hotspot areas that may need extra resources.

The list of NIBRS offenses and their definitions are located within the Help section. The Help button is located in the upper right hand corner of the NIBRS Public Portal. 

The Crime Map is located on the NIBRS public portal menu. This will provide a crime map for a specific geographical location as well as a "Heat Map" which will highlight dense crime areas where more resources are needed. It also allows to search for specific crime types.

The reporting criteria for all reports listed in Crime in Illinois is located in the resource section on the public portal Home page.

The Anomaly Reports go a step beyond the FBI’s validation rules and display incidents that may need additional attention to verify that the incident correctly reflects the details of the crime. These incidents may be correct as they are, but contain an unusual combination of data elements which may generate an FBI request for incident verification or correction.

The Custom Report tool is a powerful search tool which provides flexible query options for Incident-Based (NIBRS) reported crime. The tool offers a multitude of search criteria which can allow the user to tailor their request to specific criteria. It also allows the user to display the data in a variety of charting formats. 

The Year-to-Date Comparison Report show the number of offenses, clearances, stolen and recovered property for the current year-to-date compared with the same period in the previous year in various reports. This allows an agency to determine if there is a marked increase or decrease in crime or if there was an issue in reporting crime.

The Distribution Breakdown report is similar to the Offense Distribution Report and Arrest Distribution Report as it displays two demographic characteristics instead of one. The report can drill down into any one characteristic and display the breakdown of a second characteristic.

A cargo theft is defined as “the criminal taking of any cargo including, but not limited to, goods, chattels, money, or baggage that constitutes, in whole or in part, a
commercial shipment of freight moving in commerce, from any pipeline system, railroad car, motor truck, or other vehicle, or from any tank or storage facility, station
house, platform, or depot, or from any vessel or wharf, or from any aircraft, air terminal, airport, aircraft terminal or air freight station, warehouse, freight distribution
facility, or freight consolidation facility. For purposes of this definition, cargo shall be deemed as moving in commerce at all points between the point of origin and the
final destination, regardless of any temporary stop while awaiting transshipment or otherwise.”
